Apple Dumplings

Ingredients

  • pastry for 2 -crust pie
  • 6 medium-six baking apples, pared and cored
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 2 Tbsp. butter or margarine

Directions

  1. Prepare pastry; divide into 6 equal portions. Roll each portion to a 7-inch square. Place apples on center of squares.

  2. Combine brown sugar, cinnamon and butter or margarine. Spoon mixture into centers of apples. Moisten edges of pastry squares. Bring pastry up and over apples; pinch to seal.

  3. To serve at once; Bake 30 to 35 minutes at 425 degrees or until pastry is golden and apples are tender. Serve warm with bottled butterscotch sauce, if desired.

  4. To freeze: Place unbaked dumplings on tray; freeze. Wrap individually. Return to freezer.

  5. To serve, place unwrapped dumplings in baking dish. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.
