Popcorn Balls – 50’s karo recipe

Great popcorn balls

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup Mazola or other oil
  • 1/2 cup popcorn kernels
  • 1/2 cup KARO syrup blue label
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Directions

  1. heat oil in 4 qt covered kettle over medium heat

  2. add popcorn

  3. Cover and shake frequently till popping stops.

  4. Meanwhile mix Karo syrup, sugar and salt.

  5. Add the Karo mix to the popped corn in kettle and stir constantly over medium heat for 3-5 minutes or until corn is evenly coated.

  6. Remove from heat and form into balls. use little pressure as possible Use butter on hands to stop the stickiness.

  7. Makes 6- 2 1/2 inch balls

  8. Can add food coloring to syrup mix for colored popcorn
