Ingredients
- 3 lbs. apples, cored, pared, and sliced
- 2 cups sugar
- 3 1/2 cups flour, divided use
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 cup vegetable shortening
- 1 tsp. salt
- 6 Tbsp. cold water
Directions

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Combine apples, sugar, 1/2 cup flour and cinnamon. Set aside.

To prepare crust, combine the remaining 3 cups flour, shortening and salt. Cut together until mixture is crumbly. Add water, then stir together until the mixture forms a ball. Divide in half; roll out half the dough and place in the bottom of 9 inch pie plate. Add filling, then roll out top crust and add to pie, crimping the edges. Cut several slits in top crust to allow steam to escape during baking. Bake at least 1 hour until golden brown and bubbly.
