Ingredients
- 1 cup canned applesauce
- 1 can (8 oz.) whole berry cranberry sauce
- 2 Tbsp. brown sugar
- 2 Tbsp. butter
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 to 1 1/2 cup sifted all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 pkg. active dry yeast
- 2 Tbsp. butter or margarine, softened
- 1/2 cup very hot tap water
- 1 egg (room temperature)

Combine applesauce, cranberry sauce, brown sugar, butter, cinnamon and nutmeg in saucepan. Simmer 15 minutes. Cool.

I large bowl, thoroughly mix 1/2 cup of the flour with granulated sugar, salt and yeast. Add two tablespoons softened butter. Gradually add very hot water and beat two minutes at medium speed of electric mixer, scraping bowl occasionally. Add egg and 1/2 cup flour. Beat at high speed two minutes. Stir in enough additional flour to make a stiff batter.

Spread in greased 9-inch square pan. Top with applesauce and cranberry mixture. Cover; let rise in warm place for one hour.

Bake at 400 degrees for 25 minutes or until done. Let stand in pan 10 minutes. Then remove from pan and finish cooling on rack. If desired, drizzle with glaze.

For a simple glaze, gradually add two tablespoons boiling water to one cup confectioners’ sugar, stirring until smooth.
