Palmiers

Ingredients

  • 1/2 C sugar
  • Dash salt
  • opt- 1/2 t cinnamon
  • opt-zest of 1 orange
  • 1 sheet puff pastry (2 sheets come in box)

Directions

  1. Put half of sugar (with cinnamon and/ or orange zest) on granite counter

  2. Unroll 1 sheet puff pastry and put pastry on the sugar

  3. Push pastry down so sugar will adhere to it

  4. On top of pastry sheet, put remaining sugar- can use more sugar if desired

  5. With a rolling pin, press and roll over top of pastry to help incorporate the sugar

  6. Long ways, fold dough towards the center from each side

  7. Fold then one half over the other half (have 6 layers of pastry)

  8. Slice into 1/2 inch slices

  9. Can freeze at this point OR

  10. Preheat oven to 425-use new oven

  11. Arrange sliced pastry about 2 inches apart on baking sheet lined with parchment paper

  12. Bake in new oven 10 minutes-until lightly browned on bottom

  13. Turn with spatula and bake about 4 minutes more in new oven-until golden brown

  14. BAKE COOKIES ONE BAKING SHEET AT A TIME
