Ingredients
- 2 large cooking apples, peeled and thinly sliced
- 2 Tbsp. water
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
- 1/4 cup butter, divided
- 4 (1-inch-thick) slices French bread
Directions

Combine apples, water, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and 2 Tbsp. butter in a saucepan; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer 5 minutes or until tender, stirring occasionally.

Melt remaining 2 Tbsp. butter in an electric skillet at 350 degrees; place bread in skillet, and cook 4 minutes on each side or until browned. Spoon apple mixture over toast. Serve hot.
