Colossal Stuffed Burger

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs. ground beef
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan
  • 2 tsp dried oregano, crushed
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp bottled teriyaki
  • 1/2 tsp garlic salt
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 4 oz. can mushroom stems and pieces, drained and chopped
  • 1/4 cup shredded mozzarella
  • 8-inch pita bread round, halved horizontally
  • Torn mixed greens

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, Parmesan, oregano, lemon juice, teriyaki, and garlic salt. Divide meat mixture in half. Shape each half into a ball; pat each ball onto waxed paper to form a flat patty 8 inches in diameter. Spread tomato paste in the center of one circle of the meat. Top tomato paste with mushrooms and mozzarella. Top with the second circle of meat. Press to seal edge.

  2. Heat a grill to medium. Place burger on grill. Cover and grill about 35 minutes or until meat is done. Cut into wedges. To serve, place burger on bottom half of pita; top burger with mixed greens. Cut into 6 wedges.
