Ingredients

  • 3 Tbsp. bottled hoisin sauce
  • 1 Tbsp. finely chopped onion
  • 1 tsp. five-spice powder
  • 1/4 tsp. crushed red pepper
  • 1 lb. 95% lean ground beef
  • 8 oz. ground pork
  • 6 1/2 to 3/4-inch-thick slices peeled and cored fresh or canned pineapple
  • 6 1/2 inch thick slices red onion
  • 6 whole wheat hamburger buns, split and toasted
  • 1/2 cup snow pea pods. stings and tips removed

Directions

  1. In a very large bowl, combine hoisin sauce, finely chopped onion. five-spice powder, and crushed red pepper. Add beef and pork, mix well. Shape into six 1/2-inch thick patties.

  2. Place patties, pineapple, and red onion on the rack of an uncovered frill directly over medium coals. Frill pineapple and onion 4 to 6 minutes or until lightly browned, turning once. Grill patties 10 to 13 minutes or until an instant-read thermometer inserted into side of each patty registers 160 degrees, turning once halfway through grilling. (For a gas grill, preheat grill. Reduce heat to medium. Place patties, pineapple and red onion on grill over heat. Cover and grill as above.)

  3. Halve pea pods lengthwise. Place pineapple on bun bottoms. Top with patties, onion, and pea pods.
