Baked Beans with Pizazz

Ingredients

  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 medium green pepper, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 2 Tbsp. salad oil
  • 2 cans (1 lb. 12 oz.) baked beans
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • few drops red pepper sauce3 (optional)
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • Raw onion rings (optional)

Directions

  1. Saute onion, green pepper and garlic in oil until soft but not brown. Combine with beans, ketchup, red pepper sauce and honey, in a two-quart casserole.

  2. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Bake uncovered 45 minutes.

  3. If desired, top with a few raw onion rings.

  4. Main dish hint: Brown 1 lb. ground beef until it loses its red color and is crumbly. Drain off fat. Add to beans with sautéed vegetables and bake as above.
