Ingredients
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 2 tsp. nutmeg
- 2 tsp. salt
- 1/3 cup shortening
- 2 eggs
- 2 pkg. yeast
- 1/4 cup lukewarm water
- 3 3/4 cups flour
Directions

In saucepan add sugar, nutmeg, salt and shortening to milk. Stir until shortening is melted over low heat.

Cool to lukewarm; add well-beaten eggs and yeast dissolved in 3/4 cup lukewarm water. Add flour and heat briskly. Let rise until double in bulk, about 1 hour.

Roll dough to 1/2 inch thickness and cut with floured doughnut cutter; place on greased pan and brush with melted butter.

Let rise about 1/2 hour, or until about double. Bake at 450 degrees for about 10 minutes. Brush with butter when done, then dust with confectioners’ sugar. If desired, frost with a brown sugar frosting instead of dusting.
