Baked Hamburger Stew

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. hamburger
  • 1 Tbsp. fat
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/8 tsp. pepper
  • Dash of cayenne
  • 3 cups cubed potatoes
  • 1 can tomato soup
  • 1/2 cup water

Directions

  1. Cook hamburger in fat in frying; stir to break meat in small pieces.(as an alternative, fry 3 to 4 slices of thick bacon to render the fat until crisp, then chopped bacon and add to beef in skillet.) Add onion, salt, pepper and cayenne; cook until onion is yellowed.

  2. Put potatoes in 2 quart casserole; spread meat over potatoes. Pour mixed soup and water over potatoes.

  3. Bake, covered, for 30 minutes at 350 degrees. Remove cover and bake for 20 minutes or until potatoes are tender.
