Barbecued Ribs with Chinese Plum Sauce

Ingredients
- 5 lbs. spareribs
- 2 Tbsp. salad oil
- 1 medium onion. cut into wedges
- 2 Tbsp. cornstarch
- 3/4 cup vinegar
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 can (1 lb. 14 oz.) purple plums
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. almond extract

Parboil ribs for 1 hour.

Preheat broiler.

Heat oil in a large skillet. Add onion. cool until tender.

Combine cornstarch, vinegar, and sugar. Mix until well blended and smooth. Add to onion. Cook, stirring constantly, until mixture is thickened. Add plums, salt and almond extract. Mix well.

Cook for 10 minutes longer. Brush parboiled ribs with sauce. Broil, turning and basting frequently, until crisp and tender. Cut up ribs and serve with remaining sauce.
