Barbecued Lemon Chicken

Ingredients

  • 2 roasting or broiling chickens
  • 1 cup salad oil
  • 3/4 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 1 Tbsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. paprika
  • 2 tsp. onion powder
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • 2 tsp. crushed sweet basil
  • 2 tsp. crushed thyme

Directions

  1. Have butcher split chickens and remove wings, backbone and tail. Clean well; place in shallow pan.

  2. Combine remaining ingredients; pour into jar. Cover; shake well to blend. Pour over chicken; cover tightly. Marinate overnight in refrigerator, turning chicken occasionally.

  3. Remove to room temperature 1 hour before grilling. Barbecue chicken over hot coals for 15 to 20 minutes on each side, basting often with marinade.
