Categories: Dressing/Sauces

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp. olive oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, smashed
  • 1/8 tsp crushed red pepper
  • 15 oz. can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 sprig fresh basil, plus 1/4 cup leaves
  • Kosher salt and black pepper

Directions

  1. In a medium saute pan or medium pot, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat until shimmering. Add the garlic and crushed red pepper and saute, stirring, until the garlic is light golden, about 2 minutes. Add the crushed tomatoes and basil sprig, stir to combine, and simmer until the sauce has thickened slightly and is fully flavored, about 10 minutes.

  2. Remove and discard the basil sprig and garlic cloves. Stir in the basil leaves. Taste and add salt and black pepper as needed.

  3. If not using immediately, store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week, or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
