Beef Garden Casserole

Ingredients

  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1 1-lb. can cut green beans, drained
  • 1 cup whole kernel corn, undrained
  • 1 10 1/2 oz. can condensed tomato soup.
  • Cheese spins:
  • 2 Tbsp. shortening
  • 1 cup sifted self-rising flour
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese

Directions

  1. Cook onion in small amount of fat until tender; add ground beef, salt and pepper and brown slightly. Add green beans, corn and tomato soup.
  2. Pour into 1 1/2 quart casserole. Top with cheese spins.

  4. Cut shortening into flour and stir to milk. Turn out on floured board or pastry cloth; knead lightly and roll out into a rectangle. Spread cheese over dough; roll like jelly roll. Cut into 1-inch slices and place on top of beef mixture. Bake at 425 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes.
