Ingredients
- 8 oz. sweet Italian sausage, casings removed
- 1 red onion, chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, chopped
- 15 oz. can pizza sauce
- 1/2 cup chopped pepperoni, plus 12 slices
- 12 oz. penne, cooked
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella
- Sliced fresh basil
Directions

In ovenproof skillet, cook sausage over medium-high, breaking meat up with spoon, until browned, 5 minutes. Add onion, bell pepper, and garlic; cook, stirring often, until tender, 5 minutes. Add sauce and chopped pepperoni; simmer until flavors meld, about 5 minutes. Stir in pasta. Sprinkle with cheese. Top with pepperoni slices. Broil until crisp, about 3 minutes. Top with basil.
