Categories: Beef
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 lbs. ground beef
- Kosher salt and black pepper
- 6 tbsp olive oil
- 12 oz. white button mushrooms, sliced
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup red wine or beef broth
- 2 cups beef broth, plus more if needed
- 2 thyme sprigs
- Several dashes of Worcestershire
Directions
-
Form the ground beef into oval patties to resemble “steaks.” Sprinkle both sides with salt and pepper.
-
In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the burger patties and cook them on one side for about 3 minutes then flip them over and cook them until no longer pink, another 2-3 minutes. Remove them to paper towels.
-
Increase the heat to medium-high and add the mushrooms. Stir them around so that they’re coated in all the flavor. Sprinkle them with the flour and stir them around for about 2 minutes, letting the flour cook and the mushrooms start to brown.
-
Pour in the wine and stir the mixture, letting the wine bubble up and cook down, 1 1/2 to 2 minutes. Pour in the beef broth . Strip the leaves off the thyme sprigs into the sauce.
-
Reduce the heat to medium and cook the sauce, stirring occasionally, until it’s nice and thick, another 3 minutes.
-
Stir in the Worcestershire and it’s ready.
-
Place the hamburger steaks on plates and spoon the sauce all over the top.
