Children’s Quick Bisi Bele Bath

Not the original – but damn speedy and mild in flavor

Serves 6 people

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Rice
  • 3/4 Cup Toor Dal
  • 1 Cup Mixed Veg, chopped
  • 4 Cup Water
  • 3 T Coriander, ground
  • 2 Dried Red Chilies (or to taste)
  • 2 T Coconut
  • 1 t Tamarind
  • Salt
  • 1/4 t Mustard Seeds
  • 1/2 t Chana Dhal
  • Asafetida, dash
  • 1/2 t Urudhal
  • 4 Curry Leaves
  • 1 T Nuts, Cashew or Peanut (optional)
  • Oil
  • Ghee

Directions

  1. Place rice, toor dhal, vegetables in pressure cooker or InstaPot with 4 cups water. Cook on rice setting.

  2. Dry roast coriander, red chilies, coconut.

  3. Blend roasted ingredients with a little water to make paste.

  4. Add paste to cooked rice.

  5. Stir in tamarind and salt.

  6. Ogerne: Pop mustard seeds in oil, add curry leaves and asafetida. Add to rice.

  7. Heat nuts, Chana and Urudhal in ghee. Add to rice.

  8. Mix well and serve with Ghee.
