Ingredients
- 1 cup cornmeal
- 3/4 cup flour
- 2 tbsp. sugar
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 3/4 tsp kosher salt
- 1/2 tsp chipotle chile powder
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 3/4 cup pure pumpkin puree
- 1 egg, beaten
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- Salt

Whisk cornmeal with flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, kosher salt and chile powder in a large bowl. Add buttermilk, pumpkin puree and egg and whisk until smooth. Working in batches, deep-fry scoops of batter (2 tbsp. each) in 375 degree oil until puffed and golden, about 4 minutes. Drain on paper towels. Season with salt.
