McMillan Bread Pudding

Ingredients

  • 2 large eggs, room temp
  • 4 cups milk
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tbsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 2 loaves (1 lb. each) day-old Italian bread, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • Streusel:
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 3 tbsp. all-purpose flour
  • 3 tbsp. unsalted butter, softened
  • Sweetened whipped cream

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350. In a large bowl, whisk the first 7 ingredients until blended. Gently stir in bread; let stand until bread is softened, about 15 minutes.

  2. Transfer to 2 greased 13×9-inch baking dishes. Bake until puffed and golden and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean, 30 to 35 minutes. In a small bowl, mix streusel ingredients; sprinkle over the tops. Bake until golden brown, about 5 minutes longer.

  3. Serve warm, with sweetened whipping cream.
