Ingredients
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 sweet onion, sliced
- 1 red onion, sliced
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1 tbsp red wine vinegar
- 2 tsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp hot sauce
- Kosher salt and black pepper
- 3 scallions, chopped
- Vegetable oil, for the grill
- 4 to 6 hot dogs
- 4 to 6 hot dog buns

Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the onions and cook, stirring, until soft, about 15 minutes. Add the ketchup, vinegar, sugar, hot sauce, and salt and pepper to taste and heat through, 2-3 more minutes. Stir in the scallions.

Meanwhile, preheat a grill to medium high; oil the grates. Cook the hot dogs, turning, until charred, about 5 minutes. Grill the buns. Serve the hot dogs on the buns and top with the sweet-and-sour onions.
