Ingredients
- Au Ju Dipping Sauce:
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp finely chopped onion
- 1 tbsp flour
- 1 packet au jus mix
- 1 2/3 cups water
- Sandwich Sauce:
- 1/2 cup prepared Alfredo
- 1/4 cup mayo
- 1 dash onion salt and garlic salt
- Sandwich:
- 1 loaf bakery French bread
- 3/4 lb. thin-sliced deli roast beef
- 1/2 cup shredded Swiss
- 1/2 cup shredded Italian cheese blend
Directions
-
Preheat the oven broiler.
-
Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Sautee the onions until tender (about 2 to 3 minutes).
-
Add the flour and the contents of the au jus mix packet. Gradually whisk in the water and allow it to simmer while you make the sandwich.
-
In a small bowl, mix together the Alfredo sauce, mayo and your choice of onion salt or garlic salt.
-
Slice the French bread with one horizontal slice to make a top and a bottom half. Spread the sauce evenly over both pieces of the sliced bread.
-
Place sandwich halves open faced onto a baking sheet. Put under the oven broiler for about 1 minute, until the sauce is bubbly and the edges of the bread barely start to brown.
-
Remove the tray from the oven. Arrange the roast beef over both sandwich halves, then sprinkle evenly with cheeses.
-
Broil for another minute, until the cheese melts and starts to brown. Remove from the oven.
-
Put the sandwich halves together and return to the broiler very briefly to lightly toast the top of the sandwich. Remove from the oven and slice sandwich into 4 even slices.
-
Serve with the au jus sauce in small bowls for dipping.
