Ingredients
- 2 packages of rapid rising yeast
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 1 1/2 cups lukewarm milk, scalded then cooled
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 eggs
- 1/3 cup shortening
- 5 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for rolling dough
- Canola oil, for deep frying
- Glaze:
- 1/3 cup butter, melted
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
- 3 tbsp hot water
Directions

In a bowl, melt yeast in water. Then, combine with milk, 1/2 cup sugar, salt, eggs, shortening and 2 cups flour.

Using a mixer, whisk on low speed for 30 seconds while scraping sides of the bowl. On medium, continue to whisk for an additional 2 minutes. Mix in the rest of the flour until completely blended.

Let rest for about 50 minutes or until dough rises to twice its original size.

Transfer onto flat surface sprinkled with flour. Using a flour rolling pin, flatten dough until it is 1/2 inch thick. Cut into shape using a doughnut cutter. Let rest for another 30 minutes for the dough to rise.

a deep fryer, preheat oil to 350.

Working in batches, carefully drop doughnuts into the deep fryer. Once floating, flip. Cook for about 1 minute per side or until lightly brown. Gently scoop out using a slotted spoon and transfer onto a plate lined with paper towels.

Mix all the glaze ingredients, except water, in a bowl until smooth and well blended. Gradually add water, about 1 tbsp at a time. Whisk until smooth.

Dip doughnuts in glaze. Serve.
