Haute Hot Chocolate

Ingredients

  • 4 cups half and half
  • 2 bars chopped 70% cacao dark chocolate
  • 2 oz. chopped milk chocolate
  • Dash of salt
  • Creamy White:
  • Instead of the dark and milk chocolates, whisk in 1 1/2 cups white baking chips and 1 tsp vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Peppermint Red Velvet:
  • Instead of dark chocolate, whisk in 7 oz. chopped white baking chocolate, 1/4 tsp peppermint extract and 1/4 tsp red food coloring until smooth. Pour into mugs; top with sweetened whipped cream or mini marshmallows and a candy cane.
  • Pumpkin Spice:
  • Whisk in 3/4 cup canned pumpkin and 2 tsp pumpkin pie spice until smooth. Pour into mugs; top with sweetened whipped cream.
  • Salted Caramel and Banana:
  • Whisk in 2 pureed bananas and 1/3 cup salted caramel topping until smooth. Pour into mugs; top with whipped cream.
  • Snickerdoodle:
  • Whisk in 1 tsp vanilla extract, 1 tsp cinnamon, 3/4 tsp ground ginger, 1/2 tsp cardamom, 1/4 tsp nutmeg and 1/4 tsp allspice until smooth. Top with whipped cream.

Directions

  1. In a saucepan, heat half and half over medium heat until bubbles form around the sides of pan (do not boil). Remove from heat. Whisk in chocolate and salt. Stir in other ingredients and return to heat; cook and stir until heated through.
