Ingredients
- For Sauce:
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 28 oz. can crushed tomatoes
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper
- 2 tsp dried oregano (leaf style, not ground)
- 2 tsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- For Pizza:
- Olive oil, to coat skillet
- 1 1/2 pkgs. refrigerated pizza dough, at room temp
- 6 slices deli-style mozzarella
- 6 oz. uncooked bulk Italian sausage
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan
- 1 tbsp butter, melted

Make Sauce: Heat oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add onion; cook until tender, about 3 minutes. Add minced garlic; cook about 30 seconds, being careful not to burn. Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste and red pepper. Bring just to a boil. Reduce heat to low. Add oregano, sugar and black pepper. Cook, stirring, about 3 minutes.

semble Pizza: Preheat oven to 450. Rub olive oil in a 12-inch cast-iron skillet.

Press pizza dough into skillet, leaving an edge to contain all toppings.

Arrange mozzarella on dough. Top with sausage, pressing it flat with wet hands over cheese. Spoon 1 cup sauce over sausage, spreading evenly. Sprinkle with Parmesan. Brush crust edge with half of melted butter.

Bake until golden brown, about 30 minutes. Brush crust with remaining half of butter. Let cool 10 minutes in pan, then cut into 8 slices.
