stuffed cabbage (chalapchis)

Ingredients

  • 2 small cabbages or maybe 1 large
  • meat
  • 2 packages of impossible beef
  • 1 large onion grated
  • 2/3 cups of rice (uncooked)
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1.5 tsp pepper
  • Sauce
  • 1/4 to 1/3 jar of maranara
  • 16 oz can of diced tomatoes
  • 2/3 cup lemon juice
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • ~ 0.5 cup dried cranberries
  • 1.5 tsp salt

Directions

  1. preheat oven to 375

  2. Cut out the bottom stem/core of the cabbage

  3. put some water in bottom of bowl, add cabbage, put pie plate on top and microwave for 10 min

  4. slice the bone of each leaf thin

  5. make meat mixture

  6. put meat in cabbage toward bottom

  7. fold bottom, side, side, then roll to top

  8. put roll in dutch oven seam down

  9. add sauce

  10. bring to boil on stove top

  11. t in oven for 1.5 – 2 h
