Celery Seed Coleslaw

“We vinegar fans love this sweet-and-sour coleslaw recipe – it uses vinegar, not mayonnaise, to bind it.

Serves 8 people

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp celery seed
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 Tbs vegetable oil
  • 3 Tbs water
  • 2 lbs cabbage, shredded
  • 1 onion, grated

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients except cabbage and onion in a saucepan. Bring to a boil and simmer until sugar dissolves, about 2 – 3 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool. Combine cabbage and onion in a large bowl and add dressing. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
