Caramelized Onions

Ingredients
- For 1 serving:
- 1/2 tablespoon butter
- 1/2 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
- 1⁄2 medium to large yellow onion, thinly sliced
- a couple dashes salt
- a couple dashes pepper , freshly ground
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
- For 2 servings:
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
- 1 medium to large yellow onion , thinly sliced
- several dashes salt
- several dashes pepper , freshly ground
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- For 4 servings:
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
- 2 medium to large yellow onions , thinly sliced
- 1⁄8; teaspoon salt
- 1⁄8; teaspoon pepper , freshly ground
- 2 teaspoons sugar
Directions

In a large skillet, melt the butter in the olive oil over medium-high heat.

Add the onions, the salt and pepper.

Cook, stirring constantly, until the onions begin to soften, about 5 minutes.

Stir in the sugar and cook, scraping the browned bits off the bottom of the pan frequently, until the onions are golden brown, about 20 minutes.
