HuraLi saaru

Ingredients

  • set 1
  • 1. corriander seeds(dhania)-2tblsp.
  • 2. jeerige/jeera-1tbsp
  • 3. menthya (methi) seeds-1/4tsp.
  • 4. sasive(mustard seeds)-1/2tsp.
  • 5. menasu(black pepper)-6.
  • 6. red chilles-10
  • 7. dalchini-1/4''small piece.
  • ++ note —can use saaru (menasina pudi) pudi-2 tblsp
  • others ingredients
  • 1. huralikalu(horse gram)-1cup
  • 2. tamarind-lemon size soaked.
  • 3. fresh grated coconut -1/2cup.
  • 4. bella(jagerry)-lemon size or 2tsp sugar

Directions

  1. fry set 1 of the above ingredients adding 1tsp of oil.powder it..

  2. soak tamarind for a while in water.

  3. dry roast hurali kalu and then put in pressure cooker adding 1tsp of oil & 1tsp of haldi (turmeric)powder.

  4. take 2tblsp of boiled kalu,coconut,tamarind, powder (from step 1) ,grind it to a fine paste.

  5. boil the ground paste along with rest of the hurali kallu adding enough water till you get sarru consistency.add salt to taste.add bella. boil.well, add curry leaves.

  6. finally take 1tblsp of ghee add1/2 tsp each of sasivae,jeerigae,hing powder . let it spluter. pour over saaru.

  7. can add 1 onion while grinding(optional)-onion can be burnt over gas flame for extra taste.

  9. same method for avare kallu saaru and kadale kallu or any kallus .
