Basic Kefir

Basic ingredient for use in many probiotic recipes

Serves 1 people

Ingredients

  • 1 T. kefir grains
  • 1 cup raw or semipasturiezed milk

Directions

  1. Place grains in a glass jar can be securely sealed.

  2. Add 1 tablespoon to 1 cup of milk.

  3. Securely seal the jar.

  4. Leave the jar on your kitchen counter, out of direct sunlight, or in a cabinet at room temperature for 24 hours.

  5. After 24 hours, remove the kefir grains using a slotted spoon or a mesh strainer.

  6. Add the kefir grains to another cup of fresh milk to begin another fermentation or for storage.

  7. Transfer the strained kefir to your refrigerator.
