Another name for extra moist and delicious brownies. These were the go-to recipe for last minute dessert and food gifts. Regular cocoa gives the reddish color for the original name.

The recipe was created from two recipes from a Farm Journal cookbook, and has been even further adapted over the years.

The original recipe called for 1 cup butter and 1/2 cup cocoa. The extra cocoa and butter make the brownies a little more chocolate-y.

This recipe is from a roommate from college. I prefer Duncan Hines devil’s food cake mix. I’ve used all different kinds of sour cream (non-fat, reduced). All work fine, but regular is my preferred.

Easy to make chocolate cake that is moist and rich.

Two cakelike cookies with creamy filling in between. Dave loves these. Gobs is the Pennsylvania name.

Start with the first step of the filling so it can chill while baking the cookies.

Charlotte’s notes: the filling recipe actually makes enough for a double batch of dough.
